Bio Zeljko Vrabec
Dobar dan, zdravo, bok, ćao!
My name is Željko Vrabec. I have been teaching Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin and Serbian for the past 10 years at a language school in London, in person and on-line.
I have a degree in modern languages and linguistics.
My students in the UK have been English-speaking language enthusiasts who learn this lovely polycentric Slavonic language for a multitude of reasons: they have partners from one of the four countries or that is where their parents or grandparents originate from; they have been charmed by the beauty of the Croatian or Montenegrin coastline and are planning to buy property and relocate there; or they are simply in love with the Eastern Adriatic region, its rich history and cultural heritage. My most famous two students were Emma Thompson and Emilia Clarke, who needed to learn some basics of this language for their leading roles in the movie "Last Christmas".
I have been teaching all levels, from absolute beginners (A1) to the advanced (C1) level. My goal is to make learning a foreign language fun, almost like playing a new game - after all, words are like Lego bricks and grammar is the blueprint on how to put these bricks in a harmonious order. To learn how to survive in various situations in a foreign language is challenging, but at the same time one of the most rewarding intellectual exercises.
My biggest professional achievement is that, in 2021, I became a published author - my book Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin and Serbian - an Essential Grammar was published by Routledge - it has some great reviews on Amazon! I am currently writing two intermediate textbooks, for Croatian and Serbian, as currently there are no textbooks in English for this level of study (B1-B2).
Please have a look at the sample of what topics, grammar and cultural insights are covered in my A1 level (Beginner 1, 2 and 3 semesters). Should you be interested, please enquire for detailed course outlines for A2, B1, B2 and C1 levels.
