Bio Nicia Low
Konichiwa and ni hao! My name is Nicia and I'm passionate about language and culture. With a background in both Chinese and Japanese, I've spent years sharing my love for these languages with students from all walks of life.
From September 2017 to June 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer as a Chinese and Japanese Language Tutor at The University of Manchester Language Society and The University of Manchester International Society in the UK. I didn't just teach languages—I brought the rich cultures of China and Japan to life in the classroom. I crafted engaging lessons, designed creative learning materials, and prepared exams, all with the aim of sparking my students' curiosity and deepening their understanding of these fascinating cultures. Seeing my students improve and develop their own passion for the language has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
My journey didn't stop there! In 2020, I crossed continents to join Oita University in Japan as an Assistant Professor of English as a Foreign Language. From March to September, I embraced the challenge of hybrid teaching, blending in-person and online methods to ensure that my students received the best possible learning experience. I facilitated lively discussions, provided personalized feedback, and worked closely with the university's English team to create challenging and effective exam papers. Teaching in Japan allowed me to refine my teaching methods and better understand the diverse needs of my students.
I'm always excited to teach and share the beauty of language and culture with others. Whether it's through volunteering or professional teaching, my goal is to inspire a lifelong love of learning in every student I meet.
